YouTube Premium Price Increase: Getting Rid of Ads Just Got More Expensive

Nobody likes watching ads on YouTube. But if you want to buy a Premium subscription now, you will have to pay more. Google just increased the price of YouTube Premium across all its plans.

Watching YouTube with ads is really annoying these days. That is why so many people just pay for YouTube Premium to get a clean experience. But that ad-free experience is going to cost you more money now.

Google has quietly rolled out a YouTube Premium price increase in the US. This new price affects the Individual, Family, and Student plans. Here is a quick look at the new prices and when the changes will happen.

The New YouTube Premium Prices If you are signing up for a new account today, you will see the new rates right away. The Family plan actually saw the biggest jump, going up by $4.

Here are the new YouTube Premium prices:

  • Individual Plan: Now costs $15.99 per month (up from $13.99). The yearly plan is now $159.99.

  • Family Plan: Now costs $26.99 per month (up from $22.99).

  • Student Plan: Now costs $8.99 per month (up from $7.99).

What happens to existing subscribers? If you are already paying for YouTube Premium, you do not have to pay the higher price today.

YouTube has started sending emails to current users about the price change. These emails state that the new rates will apply starting from your June 2026 billing cycle. For most people, this will be around June 8th. This gives you over a month to decide if you want to keep the subscription or cancel it.

The Lite Plan is Also More Expensive Some people only want to remove ads and do not care about YouTube Music. YouTube offers a cheaper Premium Lite plan just for them.

However, the Lite plan also got a price bump. It went from $7.99 to $8.99 per month. The annoying part is that the Lite version still shows a few ads when you search for videos or watch YouTube Shorts.

TecHoper's Take Paying almost $27 a month for a YouTube Premium family plan is a lot of money. When you add this to other subscriptions like Netflix and Spotify, the monthly bill gets very high.

But Google knows that watching normal YouTube with long, unskippable ads is a bad experience. Because of this, most people will probably just accept the new price and keep paying. Right now, this price increase is only happening in the US. However, Google usually brings these price hikes to other countries (including India) after a few months. So, we might see a price bump here very soon.
