Redmi's Note 17 series just went official in China, and the usual next question follows: what happens to it once it leaves home. According to a new leak, part of the answer involves Poco borrowing the phone entirely rather than getting its own separate design.
A Poco Phone That May Just Be a Redmi in Disguise
Tipster Kacper Skrzypek, digging through HyperOS code, claims a Poco device bound for India carrying model number 2602IPC8I will launch as the Poco M8 Power. This isn't the first appearance of that model number — it already surfaced in the BIS certification database back in May. According to the same leak, there's also a Redmi-branded twin for India under model number 26021RN18I, and the tipster's claim is that the China-market Redmi Note 17 is simply being rebadged as the Poco M8 Power for India, without a separate wider global release for the Poco variant.
Same Phone, Different Battery Depending on Region
Here's where things get more specific. The Redmi Note 17 heading to global markets and India is said to carry the same core specifications as the Chinese version, with one notable exception: battery capacity. The Indian edition is tipped to keep the same 8,000mAh battery found in the Chinese model, while the broader global version is said to step down to a 7,700mAh cell instead.
A similar pattern shows up on the Pro model. The Redmi Note 17 Pro's Chinese variant packs a 9,000mAh battery, and according to this leak, the Indian version retains that same capacity, while the global Redmi Note 17 Pro is tipped to get a smaller 8,340mAh battery.
What the Base Model Is Expected to Offer
Based on recent reporting, the Poco M8 Power and the global/India Redmi Note 17 are tipped to share a 7-inch Samsung AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and peak brightness up to 1,800 nits. Powering it would be the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset, paired with a 50MP primary camera, 45W fast charging, and 22.5W reverse wired charging.
What the Pro Model Is Expected to Offer
The global and India variants of the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G are tipped to step up to a 6.83-inch OLED display with 1.5K resolution and brightness reaching up to 3,500 nits. It's expected to run on the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chipset, alongside a 50MP primary camera, 67W fast charging, and the same 22.5W reverse wired charging as the base model.
